Wednesday morning 3.6.20

Hi everyone. I hope you are all well today. Here are the activities for Wednesday morning:

8.45 – 9.00: Practise spellings

9.00 – 9.05: Wake Up Shake Up Explode, Volcano

9.05 – 10.00: Maths

Today we will continue to use our skills of counting in 2s, 5s and 10s to find totals. Start by practising counting in 2s, then 5s and then 10s both forward and backward. Read the word problems carefully so you know what number you are counting in: BusyAnt_y1_u10_w2_HG_2

You will see at the bottom of the sheet that there is a suggestion for extending this activity using 2ps, 5ps or 10ps. Put out a certain amount of coins – using only one denomination – and count in that number to find your total. Here is an extension sheet looking at exactly this: BusyAnt_y1_u10_w2_PG_E2

10.00 – 10.15: Break

10.15 – 11.00: English

Today we will be revising full stops and exclamation marks. There are two sheets to do here. With the first, work out if the sentence needs a full stop or an exclamation mark. Remember that if the sentence is exciting, dramatic or shocking, then it needs an exclamation mark. If it is just a regular statement, then a full stop will do. With the second sheet, you need to use your proofreading skills to add the correct punctuation.

Remember that there is also the ‘Sentence Doctor’ – ‘Problem Punctuation’ – game on the Sentence Play website that is great for practising proofreading skills: http://www.sentenceplay.co.uk/SentenceDoctor.html

11.00 – 11.15: Phonics

Carrying on with our revision of the vowel sounds this week, watch the Alphablocks episode and listen out for all ways to make the ‘igh’ sound. Alphablocks – Mine

Again, make lists of words for the different graphemes. Look at the sorting words for help with this, and identify which of the sorting words have graphemes that did not appear in Alphablocks. printables-altspellings-igh-sorting-words

11.15 – 11.30: Break

11.30 – 11.40: Mindfulness The Bye Bye Boat

11.40 – 12.25: Art and Design

For the next few weeks, we will be looking at landscapes and how artists use pencil crayons or collage to create pictures which show different shades and tones to reflect the countryside. Have a look at these three wonderful examples:

Pontesbury Hill by Jarrod Gabbitas (http://www.jarrodgabbitas.com/landscapes.html)

Pontesford Hill by Lyn Evans (https://www.lynevansdesigns.co.uk/products/pontesford-hill)

The Rea Brook at Hanwood (https://www.philiphadleyart.co.uk/photo_14256066.html#photos_id=14256067)

Have a careful look at each of these pictures and discuss what you like, or don’t like so much, about each one. Have you been to, or seen, the place in the artwork? Does it look like this in real life? What do you think the artist has used to create the picture? How successful do you think they have been? Has the artist used just one shade of green or quite a few? How do you think they’ve done this?

Choose one of the pictures and have a go at copying it using a pencil and pencil crayons. Remember, if you press lightly with a pencil crayon you will get a light shade. The harder you press on, the darker the shade will be. Be careful with the sky too! Is the sky just one shade of blue?!

I look forward to seeing your creations! x
