Tuesday morning 5.5.20

Hello everyone. Here are the activities for Tuesday morning:

8.45 – 9.00: Practise spellings

9.00 – 9.05: Wake Up Shake Up https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vIDfXEvDK9o&list=PL90-RyQXufmcPbZ0Sgk7I5fg7eyK6W4JF&index=6

9.05 – 10.00: Maths

Today we are revisiting place value, and looking again at the number of tens and the number of ones in a number. Watch the short video and work your way through the different activities on the BBC Bitesize site: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/z8sfr82/articles/zw4g2nb

Then have a go at placing two of the children in each tent, so that the numbers they have  between them per tent represent a 2 digit number. For example, I could put the children who are showing the numbers 20 and 7 in one of the tents; I would cut those two pictures out and stick them in a tent. The smaller box next to the tent is for you to then write what number those two numbers together make: if I have 2 tens (20) and a 7, then I must have 27 so this is what I would write in the small box for that tent. It may help to have some scrap paper to work on whilst you do this, and to write out the multiples of 10 in terms of how many tens there are, like the BBC Bitesize page describes. So in the above case, I could break down 20 into 10 10. BusyAnt_y1_u9_w1_PG_E2

10.00 – 10.15: Break

10.15 – 11.00: English

Have a read of The Three Little Pigs, either using the PowerPoint or reading your own book if you have the story. t-t-5080-the-three-little-pigs-story-powerpoint-_ver_1

Then, use the sequencing cards to put the events in the story in the correct order. Once you have finished, see if you can tell the story to a grown up using your cards. Do NOT print page 1! T-T-5346A-The-Three-Little-Pigs-Story-Sequencing-4-per-A4-BW You could colour these in after you’ve done the activity!

11.00 – 11.15 Phonics

Today we are recapping the suffixes ‘ing’, ‘ed’, ‘est’ and ‘er’. This fortune teller from Twinkl looks like fun and is a great way to revise these endings: t-l-52106-year-1-suffixes-ing-ed-er-est-fortune-teller

Alternatively, complete the sentences on the sheet choosing the correct suffix: t-l-4300a-adding–er–ed-and–ing-spelling-activity-black-and-white_ver_2

11.15 – 11.30: Break

11.30 – 11.40: Mindfulness. A bit different today. Watch the beautiful scenery as you quietly listen to the music playing. Practise your deep breathing as you watch. You could also listen out to see if you can hear different instruments or sounds. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sbNZ1pi2Us8

11.40 – 12.25: Music

Have a watch of this short video which discusses how sound is made and looks at how different objects make different pitched sounds. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/zyqyrdm

Can you find some things around your house that if you tap or shake them (gently!) make a sound? Do any of these sounds actually sound a bit like notes that you could sing? Maybe try one of your saucepans or something metal, and try using a metal spoon to tap them with. Maybe you have some musical instruments at home that you can use for this; if so, try to use different instruments for each ‘note’ so that you get a range of different sounds. Can you find three items that each make a different ‘note’? As you do this activity, discuss whether or note the ‘note’ is low, high or somewhere in the middle.

Use the following activity to make your own tunes and look at where each ‘note’ is placed. If the note is high, then it is placed high up. If the note is low, then it is low down, etc.  https://musiclab.chromeexperiments.com/Melody-Maker/

You could also have a go at making your own instrument with a box and rubber bands, so you can experiment with making different notes by altering the tension of the rubber band.

Have a fab morning!
