Tuesday morning 28.4.20

Hi everyone,

Here are the activities for Tuesday morning.

8.45 – 9.00: Spelling practise

9.00 – 9.05: Wake Up, Shake Up https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCKEdDEr82k

9.05 – 10.00: Maths

Today we are looking at non-standard measures for capacity (before we learn about litres and millilitres). Can you find some different cups in your kitchen, maybe about 5? Which one of the cups would hold the most liquid? Which one would hold the least? How do you know? Which one would your adult want if they were very thirsty for a cup of tea?!

If you want extra work, have a go at this sheet. Order the items at the top of the sheet from the one that would hold the least amount of liquid to the one that would hold the most. Then decide whether you would use a cup or a bucket to find out how much is in each. For example, would you measure the amount of water in the fish tank by counting it in amounts of cups or amounts of buckets? Which one would be most sensible? For smaller items, cups will be better but for larger items, you would use buckets. Imagine how long it would take you to measure bath water in cups! BusyAnt_y1_u8_w3_PG_E2

10.00 – 10.15: Break. Go outside!

10.15 – 11.00: English

Can you make rhyming strings (groups of rhyming words) using the cards attached? You could play a game of ‘Snap’ with the cards, taking turns to lay a card and shouting ‘snap’ when you get a rhyming match. Alternatively, you could draw your own pictures or look for real life items around the house. How many things can you find that rhyme? For example: box, fox, socks, clocks and rocks! Write the words too. Higher ability children may want to find items which contain more than one syllable as these are harder to rhyme with!

Do all the words have the same spelling pattern even though they rhyme? t-l-1141b-rhyming-string-cards-words-and-images

11.00 – 11.15: Phonics

Today we are looking at alternative spellings for ‘s’. Watch the Mr Thorne video and say the words with him as they are shown on screen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zVbLPt1caQI

Then, highlight the words containing these different spellings for the ‘s’ sound. Enjoy colouring the lovely seaside picture too! t2-e-3288-ni-literacy-linguistic-phonics-stage-5-and-6-phase-4a-s-sound-activity-sheet_ver_2

11.15 – 11.30: Break

11.30 – 11.40: Mindfulness https://www.cosmickids.com/category/watch/?video_category=relaxation&changed=video_category

11.40 – 12.25: Music

Have a watch of this video about high, low and middle notes, and join in: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xCqpi5Ekwiw&list=PLISNbulOQowuobSS2SMHfRCSzsOQnURG-

Now make your own melody, using this game, by changing the ‘height’ of the notes. You can also change the speed, and if you click on the instrument then the girl will play along with your tune. Explore each of the three different regions and listen to how the sound produced is different in each one. https://springroll-tc.pbskids.org/music-maker/d0f261dffc3c8f713fa5a22bb99d7f9afd04cb56/release/index.html

Have fun!
