Thursday afternoon 2.4.20

Hi everyone,

Hopefully the sun is out where you are! Here are some activities for this afternoon:

1.30 – 1.50: Reading skills

Read the clues about each of the minibeasts and match each one to the right picture. You could make your own cards too, to add to the set, and have fun colouring them in! Do not print page 1! T-T-19367A-Minibeast-Description-Cards-Black-And-White

1.50 – 2.50: Science

As we come to the end of our science unit on ‘Animals including Humans’, here are some different fun activities for you to have a go at:

Create your own bug! I have discovered a strange little game where you can make your own minibeast by choosing different body parts. You then get to see a ‘stats card’, like a Top Trump card, to see the strength of the skills that your creature has. If you make a few different bugs, print the stats cards and then you have your own set of Top Trump cards to play a game with a family member: https://www.mylearning.org/stories/minibeasts/56?

Play endangered species ‘Top Trumps’: What does it mean if an animal is endangered? Here is a ready-made set of cards, courtesy of Twinkl. Share out the cards, pick a ‘stat’ and see who comes out top! Discuss first what ‘population’ and ‘life expectancy’ mean.    t-sc-119-endangered-animals-top-card-game_ver_2

Make a poster to educate people about why we should take care of animals and their habitats, both big and small.

Have a look at the resources on the Donkey Sanctuary website. There are some really lovely activities. You may wish to do some of these over the Easter break too. Some of them are quite tricky! This file is 50 pages to print, so pick what you want carefully! https://www.stem.org.uk/system/files/community-resources/legacy_files_migrated/11562-animals-and-their-habitats-ks1-worksheets.pdf

2.50 – 3.15 (and beyond): Get outside! See if you can find any more signs of Spring. Do you have any blossom on any trees in your garden? Are there any Spring flowers out? Maybe you could plant your own seed and keep a diary over the Easter break to see how well it grows.

Enjoy!
