Thursday 11th June – English

Today we are going to write a newspaper report. The BBC Daily lesson will take you through reminders about the features of a news report and I really want you to use an example of direct speech and an example of indirect speech in your report.

BBC Daily Lesson

When you have watched the videos and completed the quiz, I would like you to watch the video about Captain Tom’s 100th Birthday celebrations and then write a short newspaper report about it.

You will need to include:
– the 5 Ws
– a quote (you could quote Boris Johnson or Captain Tom himself) – you might need to watch the video a couple of times to accurately make a note of the words they say. You don’t have to quote a huge amount – just pick out a key sentence or two.
– an example of indirect speech (this is where you refer to something someone else has said e.g. The Prime Minister congratulated Captain Tom on inspiring the nation.)

You might like to use this planning sheet and example report to help you with your own article.
