After a few near misses in recent days, please can all parents make a note of the following requests:
- Please can all parents of all our primary school children have another conversation about road safety and awareness with your children. One child ran across a road in front of a car without looking left or right. They didn’t get hit this time as the driver was able to stop in time, but the alternative doesn’t bear thinking about.
- Please can all drivers pay particular attention when pulling out from a parking space. A mother and small child had to jump back out of the way when a car pulled out and hadn’t seen them crossing the road. Another scary experience.
- Please can parents of children who cycle suggest to them that if they see a traffic incident in front of them (e.g. as happened this week, cars trying to squeeze through a narrow gap between poorly double-parked cars) that it is sometimes safer to dismount and walk past the hazard. Despite their having every right to be on the road as a legitimate road user, the risk isn’t worth it.
Thank you to everyone for their recent comments and suggestions. We are aware how bad the roads outside the primary and secondary schools are and are grateful for your patience.
