Monday morning 4.5.20

Good morning, everyone. I hope you had a good weekend. Are you ready for another fun week?!

8.45 – 9.00: Practise spellings

9.00 – 9.05: Wake Up Shake Up https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vIDfXEvDK9o&list=PL90-RyQXufmcPbZ0Sgk7I5fg7eyK6W4JF&index=6

9.05 – 10.00: Maths

Today we are building confidence in knowing how to read and write numbers up to 20. Use the sheet to practise this, matching the amounts with their digit and their written number. BusyAnt_y1_u9_w1_HG_1 You may also enjoy playing the game on Crickweb, matching the digits to their spelling. We have played this before so it will be familiar to you: http://www.crickweb.co.uk/ks1numeracy.html Then scroll down to ‘two digit number labelling’. Children who are confident with this may want to see if they can spell out the numbers on a piece of paper, without looking. Making anagrams with the letters is also a fun way to learn the spellings of the numbers.

10.00 – 10.15: Break

10.15 – 11.00: English

Today we are starting a new genre by focusing on traditional/fairy tales. How many fairy tales do you know? Work your way through the PowerPoint, looking at what makes a fairy tale and the sorts of characters they have in them. Can you guess what story is being described and then what character? t-l-5588-introduction-to-traditional-tales-powerpoint_ver_2 Draw a picture of your favourite fairy tale and write a few sentences to tell other people what happens in it.

11.00 – 11.15: Phonics

Today we are recapping alternatives for ‘air’. Watch the video from Mr Thorne and say the words with him: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KxfrXA45uek

Use the sheet to write down the spellings for each picture using ‘air’, ‘are’, ‘ear’ and ‘ere’.  Note that Mr Thorne’s video doesn’t cover ‘ere’. t-l-8629b–new-alternative-spellings-air-are-ear-table-activity-sheet-black-and-white_ver_2

11.15 – 11.30: Break

11.30 – 11.40: Mindfulness https://www.cosmickids.com/category/watch/?video_category=mindfulness&changed=video_category

11.40 – 12.25: Geography

The BBC Bitesize daily lesson fits really well here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zdq6t39 Work through the different videos and activities to become more confident knowing the countries of the UK. Have fun playing the games that help to build on, and consolidate, what we know about the UK, continents, oceans, the weather and directions.

If you want to take your learning further, then how about making an information leaflet, book or PowerPoint about one of the countries in the UK or a particular city? What is there to do there? What are some of the famous things you can see if you visit? What is the weather like?

Enjoy the morning everyone. x
