Monday morning 27.4.20

Happy Monday morning, everyone!

Hope you all had a great weekend. Here are the activities for Monday morning.

8.45 – 9.00: Spelling practise using the words you set up for yourself on Friday. If you didn’t get around to this, choose some new words for the week now from the Year 1 key word list.

9.00 – 9.05: Wake Up, Shake Up https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCKEdDEr82k

9.05 – 10.00: Maths

Today we are looking at capacity and understanding the vocabulary associated with it. Can you find some containers around your house and see if they are full, empty, or half full? How much would be in the container or bottle if it was a quarter full? What would this look like? Now see if you can complete the sheet; the bottles/containers that you have found may help: BusyAnt_y1_u8_w3_HG_1

10.00 – 10.15: Break

10.15 – 11.00: English

Here is another nonsense poem read by Spike Milligan. Have a listen to ‘The Land of the Bumbly Boo’ and then answer these questions:

Can you hear repetition?

How many times is ‘Bumbly Boo’ repeated?

Which of the lines in the poem are really, really silly?!

How is this poem similar to ‘On the Ning, Nang, Nong’? How is it different?

Have fun learning the poem and saying it in an entertaining way! https://childrens.poetryarchive.org/poem/the-land-of-the-bumbly-boo/

11.00 – 11.15: Phonics

Today is alternative spellings for ‘ar’. Read this phoneme spotter story and highlight/circle every word you find which has an ‘ar’ soundhttps://new.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/5/alt-spellings-ar

Or via the old site: https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/member-only/arAltSpellings.html

How many different ways are there to spell this phoneme? Try the ‘word sort’ activity that accompanies this game.

11.15 – 11.30: Break

11.30 – 11.40: Mindfulness https://www.cosmickids.com/category/watch/?video_category=mindfulness&changed=video_category

11.40 – 12.25: Geography

Today we are recapping the seven continents. Have a watch and listen to this rather jolly video about the continents and five major oceans: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFIS3aLQPfs

Now have a go at labelling each of the continents and the oceans. Using an atlas or a globe may prove helpful with this task: t-g-273b-the-seven-continents-labelling-activity-sheet-higher-ability

You may want to have a go at this world map jigsaw. It will take a bit of time to cut it all up, but will really help to familiarise you with where each of the continents and oceans are. A4

Enjoy the morning, everyone!
