Monday 18th January

Good morning everyone! I hope you had a lovely weekend.

English:

LO: To explore issues raised in our story

Today, we will be thinking about the issues raised in our story and mapping out the story. This will help you to think about the structure of the story and the troubles refugees face. This week, you will be writing your own refugee story including some of the hardships they have to endure. Here is your lesson powerpoint below. On slide 3, I would like you to listen to the sound first, come up with your own list of troubles then click through my ideas.

English lesson Monday

Reading comprehension:

This week, I’d like you to watch the video lessons for Anthony Horowitz’ ‘A Career in Computer Games’ I know lots of you enjoyed the Mirror lessons last week so I hope you like this one too. Follow the link to lesson 1. Anthony Horowitz

Spellings:

This week you are looking at words with the spelling pattern ‘ough’ in them.

The sea can be angry

The sea can be rough

The sea can be vicious

The sea can be tough

by John Foster

Watch this clip ough sounds and have a think about the different sounds ‘ough’ makes. Then I’d like you to sort your spellings into 4 different columns with these headings:

sounds like off / sounds like uff (as in fluff) / sounds like ow (as in how) / sounds like ow (as in snow)

Can you add any more words with the ‘ough’ pattern into these columns?

(Be careful sometimes the letter pattern ‘augh’ can sound similar to ‘ough’ as in bought or sometimes it sounds like ‘ar’ in park.
