Church

Pontesbury CE Primary School is a Voluntary Controlled Church of England Primary School which means that admission to the school is not dependent on any Christian commitment.

As a Church of England Primary School, we have a clear commitment to promoting a strong Christian ethos within the school. We are delighted that the school represents the range of  faiths and perspectives of our local community.

Letter from Rev. Greg

Dear friends,

I am Reverend Greg Smith and am the rector of Pontesbury and Stiperstones. St George’s Church in Pontesbury immensely values its relationship with Pontesbury Church of England Primary School.

The Church is host to special services throughout the year (for example: Harvest, Christmas, and Easter). I also conduct weekly assemblies which guide the school through the Anglican church calendar whilst also addressing current issues that present themselves. These assemblies are underpinned by the Church of England’s vision to ensure education is deeply Christian, with Jesus’ promise of ‘life in all its fullness’ at its heart.

The Church also has an Open the Book Team which takes assemblies, presenting Bible stories in a dramatic, interactive fashion and are enjoyed greatly by all of the children. It is currently seeking to reintroduce Pray, Bake, Read, a voluntary scheme designed to enhance children’s reading skills. If you would like to be involved in either of these please contact me.

The church plays an active role in the school’s governing body. It contributes three Foundation Governors, currently Mrs June Cribb, Mrs Sheila Bower and myself, who support the school in delivering their vision for all children.

I offer a confidential listening service to any child or family member who wants to talk. I may be contacted at rectorpontstip@gmail.com or on 07902 794653.

Every blessing,
