Home learning Year 1 30.11.20

Here are the activities that we did on Friday for anyone unable to come to school due to having to self-isolate.

English

As usual, we had a spelling test on the words dated 20.11.20. Get an adult to test you on these and make sure you write them without looking at the sheet! New spellings were then given out. If you would like to know what these new words are, the easiest way to do this is to email me; spellings are differentiated according to how well your child did in the pre-test and so may differ for each child.

Maths

In Maths, green group looked at subtraction on a number line following lots of input on the carpet (we found this tricky!). Here is the sheet: (you only need to print page 2 of this document) T-N-2986-Subtraction-From-15-Numberline-Worksheet

Blues practised their addition and subtraction skills by completing some calculations. Look carefully at the symbol each time and match the number sentence with the correct alien. addition and subtraction aliens

You may want to use counters (buttons, dry pasta shapes) to help with this, or you may find these number lines helpful: number lines 0-20

You are welcome to try both sheets regardless of what ability group your child is in. The more practice, the better!

Phonics

We looked at the tricky word spellings of all and her. We then read through the following sentences and wrote them carefully on whiteboards/paper:

My damp tent smells as bad as a mad skunk.

Do all brown toads grunt and groan?

My chimp had a sandwich for her lunch.

Take care using the right punctuation for these sentences, and make sure you use a capital letter for each of them. Read back your writing really carefully to check for any mistakes.

Fridays tend to be a bit ‘lighter’ than other days in Room 5 and we enjoy 30 minutes of choosing time during the afternoon. If you would like to do extra work today, then see if you can find out about the toys your adults used to play with when they were little. Are you able to do some research to find out about the toys that your grandparents would have played with? Are any of these toys still around now? How are they different?

Have a lovely day and we hope to see you soon.
