Dear Parents,
As you will know we are now very busy practising for Minsterley Eisteddfod on Saturday 24th March at Minsterley Parish Hall.
We will be taking part in the Children’s Choir Class which is approximately 1.30pm (No fee payable for this class by individuals)
Please let me know as soon as possible if your child is not able to attend.
I have invited all the children to take part in the Key Stage 2 vocal solo, Grandfather Clock. There is often a pre-lim (qualifying round) for this class due to numbers which takes place earlier in the morning with the final on stage just before the choir class. We will practise this in school (Thursday lunch time) and this week I will be giving out CDs to help with practise at home. I will enter the children into the class as the closing date is February 19th. A fee of £2.50 is payable on the day. A number of children are very keen, some not quite so sure (and others a definite no) but it is not set in stone, even once their name is entered and so I have said to the ‘maybes’ come and have a go and let’s see how we get on.
There is also a spoken recitation for Key Stage 2 (two age groups – years 3 & 4 and years 5 & 6) which some children showed an interest in and have been given a copy of the poem. This isn’t really ‘my thing’ and with practising with all the soloists during lunch time there doesn’t leave any time to practise the poems in school. I have said that if they are really serious about entering then they must learn their poem off by heart at home, and when we come back to school after half term we can work on their performance. Again, there is a £2.50 entry fee payable on the day. These classes also often have a pre-lim (qualifying round) depending on numbers and this will be held earlier that morning (at Minsterley School) with the finals on the main stage in the Parish Hall around the time of the choir class.
Please note all children entering the above classes will need to attend the pre-liminary rounds as detailed above.
There are also classes for instrumentalists, full details are on the website www.minsterleyeisteddfod.btck.co.uk
Lastly there is an Original Children’s Poetry Class for Key Stage 2. The entry fee of £2.50 must accompany the entry which must reach me before February 12th (I cannot take entries after that date)
All details of the Eisteddfod can be found on the website and I will bring more copies of the schedule on Thursday for anybody who hasn’t had one.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Many thanks,
Lesley
P.S. Could all children please have a file, folder, wallet etc to keep their choir words in that they can bring to choir each week. I do have a couple of spare copies but it would be really helpful if they could bring their own copies in each week, thank you.
