Home schooling – Tuesday 6th October

For those children that are self isolating we are working through the place value booklet posted earlier in the week.

For English we are researching information about a famous person and making notes about them. We will use these notes to write a biography about them later in the week. A good site to use to research information is ducksters biography

For the afternoon click on this Design a web page link. This is something we started doing tweo weeks ago.

Keep up with your reading and practising your times tables

Hopefully we will see you soon,

Mr.Morris

Next week

Next week our maths topic is place value.

To aid you (especially if you have to self isolate) here are some links to help you:

Questions

For English we are going to look at biographies and autobiographies – so Year 6 have a think who you would like to research.

biographies

If I was doing a biography I would do it about Catherine of Aragon

I wonder when she was born and died – can you help? It might be worth a prize!!!

Revision guide

This week we will be working on division. This can be a really tricky topic so I want to give some links so that you can help your child.

Multiplication and division maths revision guide

Hopefully we all have a good week. If you find any of the links useful I would suggest you save them somewhere for easy access at a later date.

Mr.Morris

Next week.

The children have had a good week and have worked really well.

They have been given their spellings today to bring home but incase they forgot they are here.

A reminder that there is NO chromebook club next week as we don’t have them in class until the following week.

Our maths will be focussing on division – this can be a bit tricky so if you can help in any way that would be brilliant.

Have a super weekend. If you have any questions just get in touch:

Leeds aren’t playing until Sunday – I was just worried some of you may be looking for their fixtures on Saturday!!!!!!

Thank you!!

I just writing a little post to say a huge thank you to everyone in Room 3, parents I am including you in this too!

You have been the most amazing class of year 2’s.  You worked so hard when we were in school and you have worked even harder at home.  Your attitude to learning and trying your very best is amazing and I know you will be a brilliant bunch of year 3’s!   I couldn’t have done my job without your support and patience and I am so proud of you all.

Thank you so much for my amazing gifts and cards, they really blew me away.  Lizzie and Harriet have many plans for the voucher but I am going to sneak away, one day soon and have a shopping spree of my own!!

It will be lovely to see you all back in September. Stay safe and well and have a lovely summer break. You deserve it.

Lots of love and hugs,

Mrs Pope xx

Friday 10th July

Well we have made it to Friday.  Hopefully the weather today will be a little better than it has been.  So let’s do this!

Morning Maths:

Today I’d like you to have a little look at coordinates.  It seem such a long time since we looked at this last and played battle ships.

Remember, when reading coordinates you need to read across first, then up.  Put your fingers on the lines, and where they meet, that is your coordinate.  Coordinates are always written in brackets with a comma between them. (3,4).

Have a little look at the sheet below.

Morning Maths 1

Maths:

Back by popular demand…Maths Mystery!

The Mystery of the Missing Moji.

Maths Mystery game 2

Remember the answers are at the back, so no peeking!

English:

It’s Free Write Friday.

Have a look at the pictures below or choose one of your own to write about.  You can choose to write anything you like. Diary, letter, story, information, poem, cartoon, go for it!

As it is Friday, it is spelling test day.  It is also your last spelling test of this year as next week there are not going to be any spellings.

As it is Arts Week, I thought you might like to learn how to draw a dog, called Teddy and yes, for those of you who are fans, he is a pug!

Have a lovely afternoon, Mrs Gwyther will post your art.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and I’ll see you all next week for the last week of term.

Love from Mrs Pope xx

Thursday 9th July

Good morning my lovelies, I hope you are well.

Lets warm up our brains first, let’s look at a little bit of shape sorting.  Sort the shapes, according to the criteria, into this Venn diagram.  Remember if the shape meets both criteria, it goes in the middle.

Our maths today is continuing with time.  Today we are looking at quarter past and to.

For those of you who are super confident, here is a bit more of a challenge.

English:

Today, I’d like to you to find out a little more about a famous artist called Georgia O’keeffe.

Georgia O’Keeffe PowerPoint

As you can see, she was quite an amazing woman.

Here is a reading comprehension about Georgia O’Keefe for you to have a little look at.

Comprehension 1

Comprehension 2

Comprehension 3

As always, comprehension 3 is the hardest.

Why don’t you ask if you can pick a flower from the garden and draw it up close, just like Georgia O’Keeffe?

If you have a little time, you could listen to this story while you work.

The Twits By Roald Dahl

Mrs Gwyther will be setting our afternoon of art!

Have a lovely day everyone, let me know how you get on.

Wednesday 8th July

Good morning everyone.

I hope the weather didn’t stop you from having fun yesterday.  I cannot believe it is Wednesday already.  This week seems to be flying past.

Morning Maths:

We haven’t looked at charts and graphs for a while, so remind your brains with a little bit of practise.

Morning Maths

Maths:  Maths today is all about reading time.  I know that many of you have been practising this skill and so are pretty confident.  If reading O’clock and half past is not for you, have a look at the sheets below.

https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-2/

Lesson-3-O-clock-and-half-past

Reading around the clock face in 5 minutes

For our English/Art today I would like you to listen to one of my favourite books.  The Paper Dolls by Julia Donaldson.  I love the pictures in this book, especially the page where the little girl is remembering things.  As it is Arts Week, I thought we’d have a go at making paper people.  I love doing this, You can make a chain of your friends or your family, whatever you feel like.  They don’t even need to be people, I’m sure you can make a chain of dinosaurs or birds. Go for it!

Here is a quick video for how to make paper dolls.

Take a few minutes to read your book and practise your spellings.

Mrs Gwyther will post this afternoons art work.

I hope you have a lovely day, let me know how your paper people turn out.

Wednesday 1st July

Good morning everyone, I cannot believe it is Wednesday already!  I do hope you are enjoying your week as year 2’s.  It is certainly lovely for us to find out more about you and all the things you enjoy.

Let’s get started.  As I’m sure you are aware, we always begin our day with a little morning maths.  Just to get our brains going.  Today we are going to be looking at addition.  To help us, we are going to be using a number line.  Something I know you will be familiar with already.  The sums on the sheet each have a number line next to them.  You can draw on this or use your finger to show your working out. Some of the number sentences have missing numbers. Use your finger or a pencil to count on from the lowest number to the highest number.

Morning Maths

Now that our maths brains are fully warmed up, let’s have a little look at our maths for today.  Today you are looking at money, but it will be recognising bank notes not coins.  Yesterday we said to ask if you could see a selection of coins.  You can try asking the same today but as notes are a lot more valuable than coins, you may not see many different types.  I know if I was asked, I would have no bank notes in my purse to show sadly, so you may have to just stick with the pictures today.

Here is the video link.

Your worksheet is below.

Lesson-3-Recognising-notes (1)

Well done everyone.  Have a little brain break and listen to this story.  It’s one of my favourites.

Yesterday we thought back about what we remembered about being in year 1, all the things we had enjoyed and would remember. The fun we had and the friends we made.

Today we are looking to the future.  What are your hopes for this year? What would you like to get better?  What do you hope this year will be like?   Have a little think and perhaps talk about it with your grown up at home.

You can either complete the sheet below and think about the year ahead…

Hopes for the year

…or you could write a letter to yourself.  In it you could tell you what you are going to get better at, what you are going to try hard to learn, what you are going to practise.  You could then put the letter in a safe place until this time next year.  Then you can open it and see what has changed.

Letter Border

Have fun having a think about what this year will be like, let us know what you are looking forward to and what you would like to get better at.

Find a cosy spot, snuggle up and spend a little time reading your reading book.

This afternoon would be our PE afternoon.  First, to warm up your bodies, have a little go at following this dance video.  It’s lots of fun.  After a couple of times you will be an expert!

Minions Dance

Now you are all warmed up, have a go at this…

We hope you have a lovely day today.  Keep us posted on how you are getting on, it’s great to hear from you and find out a little more about you.
