We have been accredited as an ‘Asthma Friendly School’
We are proud to announce that we have been accredited as an ‘Asthma Friendly School’ by the NHS. This award has only become available recently but reflects the level of importance we have always put on ensuring children with asthma (or who need an inhaler) have the best available care whilst in school.
All children either with an asthma diagnosis (or with a condition that requires them to have an inhaler, whether temporary or permanent) are required to have an up-to-date care plan in school (renewed every September) and a spare named inhaler and spacer to be kept in their classroom.
Our staff have regular asthma care training.
What is involved in becoming recognised as an ‘Asthma Friendly School’?
Hockey after-school club on Thursdays now open to all children in KS2 (years 3-6)
For the remainder of this half term, Hockey after-school club is now open to all of KS2 (years 3-6). If your child would like to join this club, please book it on School Money so we can add them to the registers. The club runs on Thursday afternoons with Mr Rogers from 3.15pm-4.15pm (the last session this half term is on Thursday 15th December).
Congratulations Terry
We are delighted to announce that Terry (9 years old) took 3rd prize (joint 2nd place) in the Severn Valley Motocross Championship in the 7 – 11 year old category, he competed on his KTM65 bike and was beaten to first place by just 17 points. Well done Terry we are very proud of you. I am sure this huge trophy will be the first of many!
Remembrance Day
The whole school went to St George’s on Friday to remember the service and sacrifice of all those that have defended our freedoms and protected our way of life.
The Year 6 pupils led a respectful time of reflection and read out the names of the fallen from Pontesbury.
Well done to all the children for acting so respectfully and thank you to the members of the public who allowed us space and time to pay our respects.
(N.B. Thank you to the member of the public who took these pictures)
Community Gifts
It was brought to my attention recently (through a local social media group) that care homes often have residents with no family, and thus don’t get gifts. Whilst I know care home staff are wonderful caring people and will give gifts to their residents this still leaves many feeling quite alone at this special time of the year.
With this in mind I thought it would be nice for some children at school to visit our local care home Cliffdale and take some gifts and cards.
I am all too aware that we are in a particularly difficult economic period and many families will not have any spare money to support this, however, hopefully there will be a few families who feel they could buy a small gift for one of the elderly residents in our community who don’t have family this Christmas. Homemade cards would be especially lovely too.
I have made contact with Cliffdale and they have several residents with no family. We have always had a good relationship with the home and for many years our school choir visited at Christmas and performed for the residents which they loved. The choir were always generously rewarded with festive refreshments and praise.
What could you gift?
Box of chocolates
Jar of sweets
Body wash
Soap
Pot plant
Pair of socks
A plain t-shirt
Pair of pyjamas
Pair slippers
Home made gifts are just as good (if not better)
Christmas Cookies,
Christmas Confectionery (Peppermint creams, Marzipan Fruits, Peanut Brittle, Cinder Toffee)
Knitted/ crocheted items
We will have a box in the office if you would like to give a gift or card, you can wrap them if you wish and just mark M(ale) or F(emale) on the label.
