Year 4 staffing change

Dear parents,

Due to a change of circumstances, Miss Graham will leave Pontesbury CE Primary School. We would like to formally thank her for all she has done for the school in her time here.

Miss Glover and Miss Manna will lead the class from Tuesday 30th November until the end of the term. Both teachers have worked in our school in the recent weeks (Miss Glover taught the class earlier in the term) and are familiar with our pedagogical approaches and long-term planning of the curriculum.

Miss Lewis and Mrs Green will continue to work in the class and will assist the class in continuing their learning journey and progression through the year.

I apologise but we have not had a chance to talk to the class about this yet however, Mr Langford will discuss this with them on Monday.

Many thanks for your understanding.

Mr Lowrie-Herz

Year 4 update

Whilst Mrs Gwyther is absent from work, we have had the amazing Mrs Glover, Mrs Taplin and Mrs Parry (on occasions) covering the class. However, after half term, Miss Graham will teach the class and continue the great foundations laid from the first half term. Miss Lewis (Mondays) and Mrs Green (Tuesday-Friday) will continue to support with the Year 4 class to ensure a smooth transition. A huge thank you to the teachers that have taught in the class and also a massive well done to the children for continuing their learning journey despite unavoidable changes.

Year 4

Dear year 4 parents

Unfortunately, Mrs Gwyther continues to be absent form school and, during her absence, we are striving to minimise any disruption for the children as much as possible. I am pleased to inform you therefore that Mrs Glover, a highly experienced teacher, will be covering the class on Mondays, Tuesdays and alternate Wednesdays. Consistent cover for the end of the week will be arranged as soon as possible.

If there are any questions about the situation please do not hesitate to contact me or catch Mrs Glover at the beginning or end of the day.

Mr Langford

UPDATE:  Cover for the end of each week in Room 6 will be provided by Mrs Parry (a regular supply teacher here at PPS) and Mrs Taplin.

Year 4 Parents

As you will be aware Mrs Gwyther has been absent from school for the last few days and the class has been covered by supply teachers and Mr Langford.
During the period of Mrs Gwyther’s absence we are ensuring the disruption to the children’s education will be as minimal as possible, especially considering the turmoil of the last year.

If any parents have any day to day concerns, please contact me through the usual channels.

Teams Meeting

Following on from Mr Langford’s home learning information, we are going to try to set up a live lesson on Thursday at 9:15am. Mr Boffey, a teacher who is currently working in Room 2 with Mrs Davies and Mrs Hilditch, will be introducing himself and taking a maths lesson.

In order for this to go ahead the following things need to be put in place.

  1. The children need to have their school email set up. Mrs Andrew’s has created a video in order to help with this. It is on the School News page.
  2. The children need to know their email address and password. They have used them before to log into the Chromebooks. The email address is something like: 16Surname.A@pontesbury.shropshire.sch.uk.  Please email me if your child does not remember it.
  3. The meeting takes place via Microsoft Teams.
  4. When a meeting is set up a link goes to the children’s email account. They can click on the link in the email and accept. They would then need to open up Teams and access the calendar tab at the side. The children need to click on the meeting to join.

KS2 Virtual Reality Experience – Tuesday 10th December (parental permission required to participate)

We have booked for a company called PrimeVR to come and deliver a virtual reality experience day at our school on Tuesday 10th December in all of our KS2 classes.  We are currently learning about the Romans and the Vikings and it would be great to be able to ‘virtually’ transport our pupils to those times.

We think this is a fantastic opportunity for our pupils and will help to bring their learning to life. We would like to ask parents for a voluntary contribution of £4.00 to help fund this amazing experience.

Please note: it is recommended that children with epilepsy or children who are prone to seizures consult with their doctor before using a VR headset. If your son/daughter has epilepsy or is prone to seizures, please inform the school reception as it is possible to access the same programs in a 2D version.

Please complete and return the letter we will send home by Monday 9th December at the very latest please.  Children will only be allowed to participate if we have received parental consent.  Thank you.

Running for the NSPCC

This afternoon, our wonderful Year 3’s and Year 4’s tied up their laces and got running…all in the name of charity.

To help raise money for the NSPCC, children were sponsored to run the Daily Mile. Thank to all who sponsored them, with Room 6 winning the award for the most sponsorship forms returned for KS2. Overall, the school did brilliantly and raised over £1000. An achievement I know everyone is very proud of.

Check out some of pictures of us running and even those who were lucky enough to run with Buddy, the NSPCC mascot.
