Just so you know, we won’t be sending any more reading books home now as we need to make sure that they are all collected in again ready for next year. So please send reading books in to school as normal tomorrow, but please be aware that they won’t be coming home again for the rest of the term.
Please can you also have a good look around your house to see if you have any that are lurking around and send these back into school too.
Here are a few changes to our timetable next week…
Monday – PE day. Please come to school in your PE kits.
Tuesday – normal school uniform.
Wednesday – Forest School as usual.
Thursday – Pontesford Hill trip. As per the letter, come in wearing Forest School clothes, sensible shoes for walking, with a sensible rucksack to carry packed lunch and water. Please check the weather in the morning to see if you will need suncream / hat / coat etc.
Friday – normal school uniform.
On the last week of term there will be no Forest School, so please send the children in wearing their uniform every day.
We will be having an extra special dance session with Mrs Hilditch tomorrow afternoon, so please can everyone come into school wearing their PE kits for the day.
For everyone having to self-isolate, here is what we got up to in school today.
Maths
First we had a go at counting in 2s and 5s and counting up to 20 forwards and backwards. Then we continued our work with subtraction and completed the subtraction sheets below, crossing off the correct amount of minibeasts.
Today we learnt about the life cycle of a frog. Do you remember the frogspawn that we borrowed from Mrs Pope’s class a little while ago? Here is a reminder of each stage of the life cycle of a frog.
Have a look at the pictures below and put them in the right order for the frog life cycle – or you could just draw your own!
I hope you all managed to have some fun whilst you were stuck at home over the weekend. Only one day of home learning and then we will all be back at school tomorrow. Here is what we are doing today…
Maths
This week we are learning about taking away. Sometimes we call this taking away and sometimes we call it subtraction – it’s up to you what you choose to call it because you will hear both ways as you go through school.
To start off with, can you have a go at counting in 5s up to 50 and counting in 2s up to 20 like we do each morning?
Today I would like you to have a go at working out the number sentences below. Please use something that you can move around like counters, such as Lego, beads, pasta etc.
To start off with, look at the first number and get that many counters. Then look at the second number and take that many counters away. How many are you left with? That’s your answer! You can print off the sheet and write the answers down, or just work practically by reading the number sentences off the screen. Up to you!
Today we are going to look at ccvc words. Can you read the word below?
pot
Can you write this word down, but turn it into the word ‘spot’? What do you need to add to turn it into this word? Where do you need to add it?
Then, have a go at changing the rest of the words below.
Write ‘top’ – change to ‘stop’
Write ‘kip’ – change to ‘skip’
Write ‘rip’ – change to ‘trip’
Write ‘rom’ – change to ‘from’
Write ‘lan’ – change to ‘plan’.
Literacy
We have got some animals in our class that are busy going through a few changes, can I remember what they are? They’re caterpillars! Today we are going to learn all about their life cycle.
Watch the video below to help you understand a little bit more about each of the stages.
Then, I would like you to use the sheet below to order the stages of the butterfly life cycle. You can use the sheet to cut and stick the pictures, or just draw your own version of the butterfly life cycle.
Once you have done this, please can you label each stage of the life cycle using the words egg, caterpillar, chrysalis and butterfly. Remember to use your word builder and sound mat to help you sound out each word.
Story time!
Activity
I thought you might like to have a go at some butterfly crafts today. There are a few pictures below with some ideas on, you could pick one of these or come up with your own idea. Totally up to you!
I hope you all have a lovely day. Just so you are all aware, I won’t be in the classroom tomorrow, but I will be in school throughout the day. So don’t worry when I’m not there in the morning!
I am very excited to let you know that we have planned a walk up Pontesford Hill for Thursday 15th July. We do this trip every year and it’s always such a positive way to end the year, spending the day chatting to and being with the children.
On this day, please send children into school wearing their usual, sensible, Forest School clothes and shoes that are suitable for walking in, no wellies please. As we will be spending the whole day up the hill, we will be taking a packed lunch with us. Please could every Reception pupil order their picnic lunch order using the form below (whether they are ordering a paid school dinner OR indicating on the form that your child will be bringing a home packed lunch with them that day instead).
It is important to make sure that all children have plenty of water to drink throughout the day too.
Children will need to wear suncream and a sunhat, or a waterproof coat, depending on the weather. Please check the weather before getting your child dressed and packing their bag in the morning.
Children will need to carry their own belongings with them, so please put their lunch, water bottle, sunhat and / or coat in a rucksack for the day. A rucksack with thick straps is easier and much more comfortable for children to carry for the day than one with a drawstring.
This is always our favourite day of the year and we are really looking forward to it!
Kind regards,
Miss Roberts
We need everyone’s information to be submitted by Friday 2nd July at the latest please so our lovely kitchen staff can order in the correct amount of food. Thank you!
Just to say, apologies that there hasn’t been much going onto Tapestry this week. My iPad has decided to reset itself and I can’t get onto it at the moment. Fingers crossed that it’s resolved soon and I can get back to letting you know all about what your little lovelies are up to.
As part of the statutory National Curriculum, your child/children will be taught all aspects of the new Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) Curriculum. This includes developing healthy relationships, staying safe, knowing how to look after their mental health and wellbeing, understanding the natural changes to bodies and naming of body parts. We believe that this biological approach needs to be balanced with an emphasis on relationships, feelings, and values. We are particularly concerned to ensure our children know how to keep themselves safe and healthy and develop confidence and self-esteem to ensure they are not vulnerable or exploited in any way.
This year we are using new materials as part of our personal and social health education curriculum. We are delivering Shropshire Respect Yourself: Sex Education programme. This programme has been nationally recognised, is informed by good practice guidance and has received the quality Kitemark from the Personal, Social Health Education Association (PSHE), It includes the transition programme for Year 6, which ensures continuity and age-appropriate progression with the Shropshire secondary programme.
As part of our planning for the delivery of this programme we have ensured that there is consistency with our school’s ethos and related policies, such as safeguarding, equalities and bullying.
The programme will be delivered by classroom teachers. There will be opportunities for children to work in mixed and single gender groups and exercises will be adapted to take into account different levels of maturity and ability. We encourage pupils to ask questions, seek further information and complete activities at home. We see this work as a partnership between school and home.
Please feel free to contact your class teacher or myself if you have any questions about the content we will be covering. Depending on the amount of queries we get, we may also be able to offer an information sharing session for parents if we feel this is necessary.
The topics we will be covering in each year as well as the vocabulary we will be learning is outlined in the document below.
