Lots of you are ready to write your final paragraph. Read the one below about Chris Bonington.

It all started for Chris Bonington when he read W.H. Murray’s book about mountains. Then his heart was set on a dream to be a great mountaineer. Not only has he succeeded but his courage, determination and leadership have made him one of the greatest mountaineers ever to live. Would you have the courage to succeed like this remarkable man has done?

Now, write your final paragraph.

After you have finished your biography, and checked it through carefully, you might want to draw the person you are writing about and some of the key events in their life.

Wednesday 22nd April

On Wednesday we have Maths, P.E, English and Geography.

Maths

First of all, investigate the number 22! Next, stand up and say your 7 times table. Then do lesson 3 on the white rose maths/ home learning website. Remember to watch the video clip and then complete the worksheets.

P.E.

Take part in the P.E. session with Joe Wicks.

English

We are going to be continuing to write our biographies. It has been lovely to read your opening paragraphs! Next, you need to write the key events in time order. Take a look at the Roald Dahl paragraph below.

Roald Dahl was born in Llandaff, South Wales on September 13th, 1916. Dahl’s parents, Harald and Sofie, were Norwegian. Dahl was named after the polar explorer, Roald Admundsen. He spoke Norwegian at home with his parents and his sisters: Astri, Alfhild and Else. As a child he spent his summer vacations visiting his grandparents in Oslo. He went to a boarding school which provided some of the inspiration for his later stories.

This paragraph is then followed by one about his life after leaving school and then one about how he became an author. Think about how you are going to organise your paragraphs and have a go!

Geography

Before we start our topic for this term, I thought it would be useful to look at how to read a map and use a compass. There is a lesson on the BBC Bitesize website that does just this. If you click on the daily lessons then on the Year 4 lessons you will see the Geography introduction to maps lesson. Have a look at it and tell me what you think.

Tuesday 21st April

Today it is Maths, P.E, English and History.

Maths

First of all, produce a poster about what you know about the number 21. Remember Mrs Howland’s way of remembering one times table fact! Next, stand up and say your 6 times table and then your 7 times table.

After that, try lesson 2 on the white rose maths/ home learning website. I was really pleased to see so many of you doing so well with the decimal numbers. Thank you!

P.E.

Try the P.E. session with Joe Wicks.

English

Lots of you are now ready to begin writing your own biography.

First of all, read the opening paragraph below about Roald Dahl.

Have you ever heard of Fantastic Mr Fox? Or read about the enormous crocodile? Do you know what was scary about The Magic Finger? If you say yes to these questions then you are probably a fan of Roald Dahl already. If you say no, don’t worry you are in for a real treat! Roald Dahl was one of the most successful writers for children who ever lived. This is his story.

Can you see this paragraph introduces Roald Dahl and explains why he is known? Use this style to write the opening paragraph for your biography.

History

Try to do one of the remaining lessons from the Anglo-Saxon booklet. If you like, you can make a PowerPoint of the information that is provided within the lesson.

This week we are going to begin writing a biography. Remember the purpose of a biography is to give an account of someone’s life. Some of you have already researched the life of the artist Mondrian. Some of you might want to research an author of your choice.

Today, please can you decide who you would like to write about, research them and record the key events in their life in time order. Tomorrow we will start writing the biography.

If you think you have already done enough research, you might like to have a go at making a card. Look at Mrs Andrew’s suggestions on the school webpage.

Science

In the afternoon, after you have read for twenty minutes, why don’t you go on the BBC Bitesize website, to the KS2 Science section and click on the electricity section. Here you will find a section about circuits. Click on the how do you draw electrical symbols and diagrams section. Make a poster to show your knowledge.

  • The strongest argument is introduced first.
  • Questions to provoke a reaction.
  • Statistics to reinforce the argument.
  • Use furthermore and in addition to link your ideas.
  • Use indeed and besides this to emphasise a point.
  • In conclusion used to sum up the argument

If you have completed your letter, and checked it through carefully, you might want to continue to research the artist Mondrian, ready to write his biography.
