PE days

This term we will be having two PE sessions. There will be a longer one with crossbar which will be on a Friday afternoon. I will then lead another shorter session on a Wednesday. On these two days the children are to come in to school wearing their PE kit.

I hope everyone enjoys the weekend – I look forward to seeing the children on Monday morning.

Welcome to Year 5

Dear Parents,

Welcome to Year 5 and Room 7. I am really looking forward to teaching this class as they were the first class I met at Pontesbury when they were in Reception. I have closely watched their progress and delighted to be teaching them.

I like all of the children to know what is going to be happening in the class as I feel this helps calm any nerves. To help with this I include the Overview planning 1st half term. This lets you know what we will be covering over the next few weeks. For more detail for some subjects I have included the following: History Overview, ICT Overview, Music Overview, PSHE Overview, RE Overview and Science Overview. Each of these may change slightly overtime.

In order to help your child I would be really happy if you could help them learn their times tables. Ideally they should know ALL of their times tables by the end of Year 4. I like the site Times tables as it enables the children to practise any table in and out of order.

Another skill the children will ideally know is how to tell the time. If they don’t then please help them with this. I know this is a difficult concept and to show how hard this can be you might want to look at this link from comedian Dave Allen. A site that can help the children is telling the time site. There are lots of activities here.

During Year 5 and 6 the children have a list of spellings they need to be able to spell. These will come up in spelling tests and will be expected to be used in written activities. Their time in these two years will go very quickly and so help with spellings will be appreciated. The list of words is here.

The children will be given new emails and login details when they return to school as we have had a new system introduced. When I have been given their details they will be able to login to edplace. The user name is Room7 and the password Pontesbury1. This site allows the children to work on topics for maths, English and science at any level from Year 1 to Year 11. Topics are explained then completed online. If answers are incorrect the correct answers are explained. This really is a tremendous site.

In class this year I will be supported by Mrs Howland and Miss Lewis. On some occasions Mrs Green will also be in the class.

Hopefully it will be a fantastic year for all of us with NO interruptions. I am a great believer that children will do better when there is a close link between home and school. To help with this my email is Nigel.Morris@ppce.co.uk. If you have any questions then please get in touch. If you would just like to drop me an email to tell me a bit more about your child I will welcome that too.

Many thanks, Mr Morris

Thanks

Thank you ever so much for my joint present. I loved the class photograph in the Leeds kit. Those of you that came to the pub would see I couldn’t read your messages in the book as I became emotional. I will over the weekend. Thank you all for being the best parents ever.

Thank you

Dear Parents,

Thank you very much. This morning I have received many presents and cards with lovely messages in them. I am a very lucky person. Your children have been a delight to teach these two years. I wish them all lots of luck and success in their next few years.

Nigel

The last day

Just a quick reminder that the children can bring in a shirt tomorrow and get everyone else to sign it. You will also be given a book that you can get everyone to sign. Whilst we are having our picnic, I am hoping other staff will come over to sign things. After school Miss Hughes is going to join me in seeing any of you who feel happy enough about meeting together. I will do a final post on Thursday before this page is going to be about my new class in September.
Many thanks, Mr M

Tuesday

For Tuesday and Wednesday I would like the children coming in to school wearing their PE kits. With this glorious weather it does then give us the option of going outside. The PE kits will probably be cooler for the children too. It would be great if the children could bring in a sun hat and sun cream too.

Many thanks

Mr Morris

The last week

Dear Parents.

We have come to the last week of term. I need to let you know what is happening. On Monday we we will be clearing our trays and getting our books ready to bring  home. It would be great if the children brought a bag in to collect all of the books they have used this year. We will also be having a PE session so the children will need to come in to school wearing their PE kits. On Tuesday we  are having  a church service, just for Year 6. This will be special for the children. On Wednesday it is the school picnic. As this is the last day at Pontesbury Primary School the children will be able to bring in a plain white T shirt and get others to sign it.

A couple of reminders

Just a couple of things for you: The children will be ready to collect today at approximately 3:30. They will be bringing their reports home today. On Monday I would like them to come in to school in their PE kits. During the weekend I will put up a post about what will be happening during the last week of term.

Many thanks,

Mr Morris

Next week

Dear Parents,

As you are aware, next week we have Arthog coming to school. I will be with the children during the week. Unfortunately this does mean that I am not going to be able to reply to emails as I won’t be in class. If you need to give me some information please email the school office and they will pass it on to me whenever they see me. I have set up my emails to reply with this same message. I do apologise but this is unavoidable.

Many thanks,

Mr Morris

The end of term

Dear Parents,

I really hope you know how much I have loved teaching each child over the last two years. I have never taught the same class over a two year period  before but couldn’t have had a better class to do this with. I really appreciate all of your help and support over these two years too. In an ideal world I would have met up with lots of you. This has not been an option over the last couple of years. I do have a proposal to try to rectify this though. Next week the children have Arthog. We then move to our last week. As a school it will look really bad if there were lots of adults in school just after restrictions are lifted in the 19th. So my proposal is on the last day of term that any parents that would like to chat together and catch up meet somewhere together. I would suggest the Nags Head. Children will have lots of space to run around and parents can have a chat. I am fully aware that some of you will have reservations because of COVID worries and understand you might not be keen on this. I am just trying to give an opportunity for parents to meet if they wish. If you have questions about this please get in touch. Thanks Mr Morris
