This is the work for any child self-isolating.

Maths

Today we are looking at counting to 10 and 20 using what we already know and any number patterns we know such as counting in 2s or 5s.

Have a go at this game with an adult to get our brains working. Can you count in 2s up tp 20? You may have played this game in class before! counting in 2s and 5 game

Once you have played the game, complete these 2 worksheets. If you complete the counting to 20 sheet and found it easy, with an adult can you count to 30?

Counting to 10

Counting to 20

What is the biggest number you can count to? Ask an adult to help you with any of today’s activities if you find them challenging or get stuck.

PSHE

Today we are speaking about being responsible and how does it look to show you are a responsible person?

Can you think of a time you have had to be responsible? It could be helping your parents put the dishes away. Either today or over the weekend, can you do something with an adult where you have to be responsible?

Have a lovely weekend guys and hopefully see you next week!

Those children who are self-isolating at home, have a go at these tasks.

English 1

We were due to do a writing assessment today. Can you spend 5 or 10 minutes telling an adult everything you can remember about plants? What sorts of flowers can you name? Can you name the parts of a plant or a tree? Do you remember that we said that bees are really important to have in our garden? Why are they important? How do they help us? Can you spend about 20 minutes or so writing down some of these ideas as full, interesting sentences? Remember what sentences need to start and end with! When you have written your sentences, read back through your work and check you can read every word.

Reading

Enjoy a relaxed story time with an adult. Speak about any characters in the story. Did you like the story? Why did you like/dislike it?

Have a snack break

English 2

Session 2 of English will be a comprehension activity. Honeybee Comprehension

We are learning about honeybees and trying to answer some questions on them using a non-chronological report. If you find reading the report challenging, work with an adult and discuss each question as you work through the sheet.

Tell an adult the fact about honeybees that you liked the most. If you are confident once you have answered the questions, can you identify any features of the non-chronological report that you have read today?

Phonics

In phonics we are covering alternative pronunciations for /ay/.

Spend 5-10 minutes working with an adult playing this game. Phonics game for /ay/

Have a quick break for a drink

RSE

Today we are learning about animals and their babies. Watch and listen to a reading of ‘Monkey Puzzle’ by Julia Donaldson. Monkey Puzzle

Work with an adult and go through the PowerPoint which helps us to learn about Animals and their babies. Do you know any names of adult animals and the baby animals? For example. An adult female cow is called a Cow, but an adult male cow is called a Bull. A baby cow is called a Calf. Animals and their babies

Finally, work with an adult to identify which animals are born from an egg and which animals are not born from an egg. Do you know any animals that come from an egg already? Where do all of us children and adults come from? Animals- Egg or Not Egg

Have a great day guys and hopefully see you soon!

30.06.21 Home Learning

Morning,

This is the home learning for any child self-isolating from Room 5.

English 1

In English today we are due to do 2 assessments so instead can you please have a go at the following activities.

Find a non-fiction book at home and work with an adult having a go at these questions. (Non-fiction definition: writing that is informative or factual rather than fictional and made up.)

Can you remember what a non-fiction book looks like or is about?

Can you identify any features in the book that we learnt when we did non-chronological reports? (Title, Sub- Headings, Sections, Captions etc).

After reading some of the book with an adult, write 4-5 questions that you either want to investigate or ask the author.

Are you able to remember the punctuation we must use to end a question?

Internet Safety

Attempt to create a poster which shows why we need to be careful when using the internet. Watch this video for some inspiration. Internet Safety Video

Take a little break from learning.

English 2

Have a go at one of these SPAG (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar) mats. Once you have tried to answer one, ask an adult to go through your answers with you. Were there any questions you found tricky? Tell an adult about how you found attempting the mat.

Mat 1 Mat 2 Mat 3 Mat 4 Mat 5 Mat 6

History

Today we are going for a walk around Pontesbury looking at different buildings and their ages. We are looking at our local history and attempting to draw some of the buildings. To help you at home, Mr Tipton has prepared some short videos of the places we are going to visit. Can you draw the 4 different building ages shown in the videos? Have a chat with your adult about any features in the town/village you live. Are there any features or places that your town/village is known for? If it helps, I have inserted a worksheet for you to use for your drawings. Local History work sheet

Watch videos 1 and 2 and then have a go at drawing the new buildings being built by school. Introduction to local history. Video 1    New builds. Video 2

The next part of our walk takes us to look at buildings that are about 50-60 years old. Do any of these buildings look similar to the place you live? Do they look different to where you live? Have a go at drawing a building you see in the video. Medium aged buildings. 50-60 years old. Video 3

The third stop on our tour of Pontesbury takes us to The Plough pub and the little stream alongside it. Tell an adult what you notice about The Plough’s appearance. Do you think you know which era the building is from? Watch the video below and there is a couple of clues to help you. Attempt to draw the building or stream. Old aged building and stream. Video 4

We finish our walk at St George’s Church, a place I am sure you have all been before so will know lots about it and how it looks inside. Have a chat with an adult about anything you notice about the church. It could be what it looks like, the colour of the bricks, the stained glass windows and so much more.

Remote learning 29.6.21

Here are the activities for those having to self-isolate.

Maths – 2 sessions

Today’s maths started with recapping doubles. Can you remember what ‘doubles’ means? Do you know any doubles without needing to work them out? Look at the butterflies on the sheet. What would you need to do so that these butterflies show double the amount of spots? Draw in the spots and solve the number sentence. butterfly doubles

If you are quite confident with doubles, you may want to have a go at this extension sheet. Use what you already know about doubles to help you find answers to the ‘near doubles’ questions. near doubles extension

You may also like to have a round of ‘Hit the Button’, choosing the doubles option: doubles game

Our second maths lesson looked at using a number line to solve addition questions. When we add, we can start with either number. So, if we were to add 3 and 4 (3+4=), we can also solve this as 4 add 3 (4+3=). Watch the video clip and try the activity to remind yourself how number lines work: number line clip

Solve the questions on the sheet using the number line each time. Start with selecting the biggest number in the number sentence and circle it on the number line. Your second number is the number of jumps you need to do up the number line. Choose the sheet most appropriate for you (your child will know which maths group they are in):

Yellows: adding within 10 on a number line

Green stars: adding within 15 on a number line

Green rectangles and blues: addition within 30 on a number line

Phonics

Start by going through the flashcards (phase 3 and 5). Username: pps1; password: apple Flashcards

Then, have a go at these games looking at ure, oor and our (as in ‘your’). Can you find all the graphemes? Have a go at sorting the words too, according to how they are spelt: ure games and story

PE

This afternoon is PE. Explore this dance resource: woodland comes to life You may have to adapt some parts of it if there is just you doing it! You may also like to do a Cosmic Kids routine to stay fit too: yoga routines

Have a super day, everyone. x

Remote learning 28.6.21

Here are activities for those children having to self-isolate at the moment.

Forest School

This morning was Forest School. We took part in four different activities using our natural environment. Can you tell an adult the rules for Forest School? Why are these rules important? Have a go at the different activities below:

  1. Go on a scavenger hunt looking for signs of summer summer scavenger hunt
  2. Make a raft or boat using sticks leaf boats
  3. Build a nest suitable and safe for a bird. Think about where you are going to put it and why. How do birds protect their nests? bird nest
  4. Use twigs to make a skeleton picture. See if you can learn some of the names of body parts that you didn’t already know. Can these parts be seen on the outside of a real body or are they inside the body? twig skeleton

Spellings

This afternoon we have a pre-test. Have a go at writing the words most suitable for you and see how you get on. Remember that these are words that you won’t have had to practise yet. It really doesn’t matter if you don’t get any of them. If you let me know how you got on (either by email or when you return to school), I can then issue you with the spellings most appropriate for you.

Here are the pre-test word lists:

Yellow (only for children who really struggle with phonics): air, hair, chair, pair

Green: pure, sure, cure, house, saw

Pink: pure, unsure, manure, secure, house, saw

Purple: unsure, mature, cured, pleasure, treasure, eight

Science

In today’s science, we are recapping what we know about plant parts, which parts can be eaten and how plants help us and insects. Start by watching this video: plant parts that we eat

Can you make some models – using playdough or craft materials – of something edible that is the root of a plant (for example, a carrot)? How about making something that is the leaf (for example, a cauliflower), the stem (e.g. celery) and something that comes from the flower (a fruit)?

See if you remember what the parts of a tree are called. Here is a game you may enjoy where you label the different parts: tree part labelling What are some differences between the spring and summer tree? Why do you think these changes have taken place?

Now, think about how plants help insects. It is good to have insects in your garden, particularly bees and other pollinators! Why is this? How can we help attract more insects and bees into our gardens? Can you design a garden that a bee would love and explain your choice of plants to a grown up? The BBC website might help you to understand more about the need to help bees and what we can do: Big Bee Challenge

Have a great day, everyone. x

Remote Learning 25.6.21

Here as some tasks for the children currently learning from home due to self-isolating.

Maths

We are now starting to think about positions and directions. To help get our brains awake, can you tell an adult which is your left hand side and your right hand side? Can you think of a good way to help us remember which side is which? You will need to know this for later.

Have a watch of this video which will introduce our different positions.

Video to help learn positions

Watch the video up until 3 minutes 53. Then have a go at this activity (see below). In the room you’re sitting in, can you either tell a parent or write down what you notice is:

Behind you, to the right of you, in front of you and to the left of you. This work sheet may help you. Maths positions worksheet   Can you try and look in a different room and tell and adult or write down what you can see in that room too. Think about behind, to the right, in front and to the left of you.

Have a little break and then watch the rest of the video you used before up to 7 minutes 33. We are now thinking of directions. Can you grab a toy or teddy and work with an adult to move your object forward, to the right, backwards and to the left? Adults, can you give your child a position to move their toy/teddy to please? Finally, can you get from one side of the room you are in to the other, using directions from your adult? It could be, take 1 step forward, take 2 steps to the right. Have fun with this. What is the biggest number of steps you can take to cross the room? What is the smallest amount of steps to cross the room?

Phonics

We are looking at the phoneme /ure/. Can you think of any words you know that have /ure/ in? Watch the 2 short videos below. The first one will help look at how to say /ure/. The second video is a little song with lots of /ure/ words. Can you tell an adult how many different /ure/ words the song has? Have a go at segmenting and blending some of the /ure/ words from the song.

Video 1: Introduction to /ure/

Video 2: Song with lots of /ure/ words

RSE

Today we are thinking about how you have changed from when you were a baby to how you look now. Can you find any photos of you as a baby? Play a game of Spot the Difference with the baby photo, to how you look today. Can you tell an adult at least 3 differences? I’m sure you can think of lots.

Draw a picture of you today as a 5/6 year old. Can you tell an adult about anything that you can do now that you could not do as a baby? It could be ” I can now walk.” or ” I can swim.” or even ” I can cross a balance beam.”

Finally, have a chat with an adult about anything you do each day to help look after yourself. I can think of 1 thing you all do every morning when we get to school. You all wash your hands to help you stay healthy. What else do you do every day to keep yourself healthy and clean?

Have a great day guys!

Mrs Garcia and Mr Tipton x

Room 5 walk around Pontesbury 30.6.21

Next Wednesday (30th), we are planning to take the Year 1 children on a walk around Pontesbury looking at the different buildings, and considering if they are old or new, as part of our history topic. We will remain aware of staying covid-safe and will stay in our own bubble, socially distanced from any locals we pass.

Could you please ensure that on this day your child brings a coat to school and a water bottle? They will need a sun hat and sun cream if it is hot and sunny that day. They are also welcome to wear comfy trainers instead of school shoes on that day if they wish. The walk will take place during the school day and will not affect lunchtime at all.

Many thanks,

Mrs Garcia

Remote learning 24.6.21

Here are some tasks for any children who are currently self-isolating to complete from home.

English lesson 1

We have started to look at non-chronological reports, which simply just means factual texts where the information is not written in any particular order. Can you remember the difference between stories (fiction) and information books (non fiction)? What are the clues that a book is an information book and not a story? Maybe you could find some examples of information books around your house.

Using the information books that you find, can you tell an adult where the title is and read it to them? Have a look inside your book and see if you can find any photos. Do you remember what the writing underneath the photo is called? It’s called a caption. Do any of the photos have captions? We have also learnt about sub-headings. These are the smaller titles or headings underneath the main one. Usually they are used to break the text up into chunks/sections/paragraphs. Watch this video so you are clear about these features of a non-chronological report:

non chronological report video

Using this report, can you tell an adult where the following features are? You will only need to look at page 1. leopard report

title

sub-headings

facts

bullet points

sections/paragraphs

Once you have found these, can you explain the job of each feature?

English lesson 2

After break, we focused our attention on captions and good quality sentences. What do all sentences need to start with? How do we end sentences? Do they always end in a full stop? Can you find some examples of exclamation marks and question marks in any of your books?

Look at the sentence on the sheet and think about which word is missing. When you have finished, can you draw your own picture and write a full sentence to explain what it is? If you are in green ‘rectangles’ or blue group, you will notice that there are some connectives for you to use in order to extend your sentences and make them longer. Feel free to choose the sheet most appropriate for your child. There is also a pirate information report for you to use to help you if you need it.

DT

If you were at school on Monday, you will remember that we enjoyed trying out different herbs, fruits and vegetables. How do we know if something is a fruit or a vegetable? How many different fruit and veg can you name? Try some different types of fruits and vegetables and complete the sheet. fruit & veg tasting

Can you use some of these different fruits and vegetables today to make a healthy snack?

Phonics

We have been looking at compound words. Watch the video and have a go at the activities. compund words

Have a great day, everyone!

Mrs Garcia x

Forest School and tasting

Next week, the children will be participating in activities which involve tasting samples of herbs, fruits and vegetables. If your child is allergic to any fruits, vegetables or herbs, please could you notify an adult in Room 5 either when you drop off/collect or via email/note sent in with your child? We do need to know this information before 9am next Monday (21st).

Can I also remind everyone that children should be bringing in school uniform to change back into following Forest School as well as school shoes please? I am aware that some classes do not change before/after Forest School; however, we have our session first thing and if children get wet or muddy, it is very uncomfortable for them to spend all day in dirty clothes. Changing also helps prepare them for Year 2 when they will be required to dress themselves before and after PE and Forest School.

All children should be bringing in a water bottle as well as a sun hat now that the weather is warming up. Please ensure that these items are named.

Many thanks.
