Days things happen this spring term for Year 1s!

Hi everyone,

I hope you all had a good half term and made the most of the sunshine. I just want to update you on a few changes and remind you of what happens and when!

PE will continue to be a Monday and Friday, so children need to come dressed in PE kits please.

Forest School will be every other Wednesday, starting this week. Future dates are below. Please can children come to school wearing ‘scruffs’ and shoes/trainers (not wellies – please bring those in a bag!). Dates:

Wed 15th March

Wed 29th March

Library: our library day has gone back to a Tuesday for this half term. If your child wishes to borrow a new book, then they will need to bring back the one they took home the week before.

A reminder that you can now order your child’s lunch at home and we are happy for you to do so as it saves us a bit of time in a busy morning! There is no obligation to do so, however!

Remember that every Friday, e-books are allocated. Check your login details from the office (in an email) for how to access these.

Continue listening to your child read at home. There are so many children making fantastic progress with their reading and this is helped by the great support at home. Thank you!

As always, if you have any questions, queries or concerns then please don’t hesitate to see myself or Mrs Manna (Thu, Fri) or email during working hours.

Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow,

Ms Vincent

Speaking and listening activity this Friday

Hi everyone,

At the moment, we are having a big push on developing the Year 1’s speaking and listening skills. We would like the children to bring something in/or to talk about something they do or an activity they enjoy outside of school. They will be talking to other children and an adult in small groups about their chosen item or topic of interest. Could you ensure that your child has something prepared for this Friday, the 3rd February? Children feeling particularly nervous about this will have the opportunity to work with another child.

Many thanks,

Mrs Manna and Ms Vincent.

Library and Forest School updates Year 1

Hi everyone,

Now that it is a new term, we have changed our library day to a Friday. When children borrow a library book, they are welcome to keep it for a few weeks. However, we are not able to let them take out a different book whilst they still have it. There may also be opportunities on a Thursday to swap their book during lunchtimes, helped by Year 6 librarians.

I’m changing the day of Forest School to a Wednesday as I hadn’t realised that reception class use the wooded area every Tuesday! It will still be every other week as per the dates I gave out a few days ago (just a day later!). No Forest School next week. The next one will be Wednesday 18th January.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to you all! We hope you had a fantastic Christmas. On behalf of all of the adults in Year 1, thank you so much for all of the kind cards and gifts. They were very much appreciated. I was sorted for things to eat, drink, read and look at over the Christmas break!

Just a few things to draw your attention to:

I have just posted an overview of our learning on this page and on the Year 1 class page which details what we are covering in each subject throughout spring.

PE days are Monday (outdoor, weather permitting) and Friday (indoor).

We are having a Forest School session every other Tuesday. The first one will be next Tuesday (10th Jan). Can your child please wear ‘scruffs’ for this session and bring wellies and a waterproof coat, scarf, gloves etc.? Thanks.

Here are the dates for the Forest School sessions:

10th Jan: Forest School

17th Jan: No Forest School. This will be a DT session so normal uniform please!

24th Jan: Forest School

31st Jan: DT, so normal uniform.

7th Feb: Forest School

14th Feb: DT. Normal uniform.

Snacks should be healthy and ideally fruit or veg please.

Can we politely ask that children do not bring toys into school in the hope that they can do a ‘Show and Tell’?! We will try and build in opportunities for learning-related show and tell sessions but will let you know when these happen. Children are always welcome to bring in achievement certificates and any stories that they write, however!

As always, if you have any concerns, queries or questions, please free to email or catch us at the end of the day (bear in mind, sometimes it is tricky to have a quality conversation at pick-up time!!).

Here’s to an exciting new term, longer days and milder weather!

Ms Vincent

Old toys research booklets

Hi everyone,

You may remember that a few weeks ago, the children brought home a small A5 booklet with a couple of questions in it for adults to answer about toys. There are a few of these that are missing. If you know where the booklet is, please can you send it back into school even if it’s not filled in? (Nobody’s judging!) Your child can then go and ask their questions to an adult in school.

Many thanks.
