Monday 6th July

Hello Room 4,

It’s so nice to be back on here. I missed you all a lot last week, but I hope you enjoyed all your tasks ready for Year 1. This week it is arts week, the activities for the afternoon (or whenever you choose to do them) will be posted separately, and I will be setting Literacy and Maths tasks on here.

Literacy:

As it is arts week, I thought this week we could have a look at poetry.

Here’s a silly poem to get you started.

Have a look at some of your books that you have at home, can you spot any rhyming words in them? Julia Donaldson books are particularly good for spotting rhymes!

Once you’ve done that, can you play this game on Phonics Play. We have played it before, you will need to find the rhyming words to bake a cake.

Cake Bake

You might remember that we sing a silly rhyme to go along with the game, it goes like this:

‘I’m making lots of silly soup, I’m making soup that’s silly. And then I’ll put it in the fridge to make it nice and chilly!’

Maths:

This week we are going to be looking at our number bonds to 10. Number bonds are two numbers that work together to make another number.

Today I would like you to explore how many different ways you can make the number 10, you can do this in a number of ways:

  • use two different colours of Lego bricks to make different towers of 10 (e.g. 2 yellow bricks and 8 red bricks, 5 yellow bricks and 5 red bricks etc.)
  • use different coloured paper strips to make paper chains to decorate the house (e.g. 3 pink strips and 7 blue strips to make 10)
  • use different coloured beads to make 10
  • use 10 counters or little pieces of paper and separate them in different ways
  • or come up with your own ideas

Remember each time to check that you have exactly 10 altogether. Have fun exploring this!

Have a lovely day, I’m looking forward to seeing what you have all been getting up to.

Friday 26th June

Hi everyone,

It’s Friday – we made it to the end of another week of home schooling! Here is what we will be doing today.

Literacy:

In Room 4 we absolutely love making obstacle courses! Today I would like you to design your own obstacle course! So, have a think about the different items that you might like to include and list them down. It may be cups to weave around, chalk to draw arrows with, a ball to kick, a brick or a block to balance on – anything that you can come up with (that your grown up says you are allowed to use).

Make a list of all the items that you will need, and then use this to make your obstacle course!

Maths:

For maths, you will need to complete your obstacle course. Have a stopwatch of some sort handy and time how long it takes you to complete your course. Can you complete it 5 times and see when your quickest time was? Maybe get everyone in your house to complete the course and see who can complete it in the quickest time! If you like, you can note the times down on the sheet below.

Enjoy!

Time Challenge Sheet

Have a fab day and a lovely weekend everyone,

Thursday 25th June

Hi everyone,

I hope you’re all having a good week, I’ve seen some brilliant work so far – thank you to everyone who has been keeping in touch and letting me know what they have been up to. Here is what we will be doing today.

Literacy:

Yesterday we made a poster all about how to keep our bodies healthy, but I’m wondering how well you know all the body parts! Today I would like you to label all the different parts of your body. There are a few ways you could do this. You could either draw a picture of yourself and write the labels on (you could challenge yourself and see if you could write 10 labels!), or print out the sheet below. You could cut and stick all the labels on, or use the sounds you know to write the labels instead – just see how you are feeling! Or if you wanted to, you could write all the different body parts that you know onto post-its and then use these to label yourself or someone else in your family!

Choose whichever way you fancy doing today.

Maths:

Today I would like you to recap on your addition skills again. I know you really enjoyed the games from a few weeks ago, so I thought you might like to have another go.

You can choose from either of these links, the first link is slightly easier than the second.

Choose whichever one suits you best.

Have a lovely day,

Wednesday 24th June

Hi everyone,

I hope you’re having a great week so far. Here is what we will be up to today.

Literacy:

We have been learning about how to keep healthy this week, so today I would like you to make a poster all about how to be healthy. Eating healthy food and exercising are important, but remember that there are lots of other ways to keep our bodies healthy, such as:

  • Drinking lots of water
  • Brushing your teeth twice a day
  • Having a bath or a shower regularly
  • Putting suncream on and wearing a hat when it’s sunny
  • Not having too much screen time

How many other suggestions can you think of to keep healthy? Draw or write about them on your poster, or maybe draw a picture of yourself doing some of the things to keep yourself healthy.

Maths:

We are going to do some more work on recognising our numbers to 20 today and it’s a nice easy activity – colour by numbers! Colouring is a great way to relax and keep your mind healthy, in Room 4 we love doing a bit of colouring with some music on to help us concentrate.

Colour by Number to 20

Have a fab day,

Tuesday 23rd June

Tuesday 23rd June

Hi everyone,

I hope you had a good day yesterday, here are our suggestions for today.

Literacy:

Today I would like you to have a think about what your favourite way to exercise is. This could be a sport, or any other form of physical activity, such as yoga, bouncing on the trampoline, walking the dog etc.

Can you please write me a sentence about your favourite way to exercise and why?

So mine might be:

I like yoga because it is calm and relaxing and it helps me to get stronger.

Once you have finished you could draw a picture of yourself doing your favourite activity!

Maths:

I’ve got something a bit more active for maths today. You will need you 0-20 flashcards, I’ve got some to print out below if you need them. Put all your flashcards face down in a muddled up order on one side. Then print out the exercise cards from below and put these face down on another side. You could always make your own exercise cards if you prefer!

Then you will need to pick one number and one exercise to complete, for example you might pick 11 starjumps, or 5 pencil rolls etc.

Repeat this as many times as you can before you tire yourself out!

Enjoy yourselves!

Monday 22nd June

Hi everyone,

I hope you are all alright and you enjoyed the amazing diversity work from last week, this week is PE week so lots of our work will be reflecting that. Here are your Literacy and Maths suggestions for today.

Literacy:

Today we are going to be thinking about healthy eating. I have got a selection of food cards underneath – the first job you need to do is to label the pictures using the sounds that you know. Remember that you can share the writing with a grown up if you need to and you don’t need to print all the pictures out – maybe just one or two pages!

Food to label

Once you have done this, then you can use them for the healthy lunchbox activity that Mrs Garcia has planned for this afternoon.

Maths:

Following on from learning about food, I have got an ‘I Spy and Add’ food sheet for you today – I know lots of you have enjoyed these in the past. Today I would like you to concentrate on making sure that all your numbers are formed correctly too. There’s a number formation sheet below too, just in case any of you are still struggling with this.

I Spy and Add

Number Formation

Don’t forget our ‘draw some numbers with me’ song too, unfortunately the song is on a password protected website, but here are the lyrics if you’ve forgotten them:

Draw a straight line down from the sky to the ground and that’s a number 1.

Draw the neck of a swan and the water that it’s on and that’s a number 2.

Draw a moon on the top then another then stop and that’s a number 3.

Draw some numbers with me.

Go down and across and make a little cross and that’s a number 4.

Draw a hat and a neck and a tummy, that’s funny it’s a number 5!

Draw an elephant’s trunk as it’s eating up it’s lunch and that’s a number 6.

Draw some numbers like this.

Draw the deck of a ship and down to the sea and that’s a number 7.

Draw a loop around the track and loop all the way back and that’s a number 8.

Draw a circle and a line like a big road sign and that’s a number 9.

Draw some numbers like mine.

To draw a 10 we have to start again and draw a number 1.

Then next to it an ‘o’ which we call a zero and you’ve got number 10.

Now that we’ve done all the numbers right through to 10,

Let’s draw them all again.

Let’s draw them all again.

Have a lovely day and I’m looking forward to hearing from you,

Miss Roberts x

Friday 12th June

Hi everyone,

So this will actually be the last post with home learning from me as we will be having themed weeks until the end of term – there are some exciting things coming up! If I spot anything that I think you might really like to do at home then I’ll pop it on here too, but please continue to share what you have been doing on Tapestry for me to see.

Today we will be doing Literacy, Maths and Art.

Literacy:

Today I would like you to write about the life cycle of a frog. I have got another sheet for you to fill in the gaps, I haven’t included the sheet where you do all the writing as it looked like most of you preferred the fill in the gaps option!

Frog Life Cycle

Maths:

I’ve got an addition and subtraction game for you today. There are two options, level one and level two. You may need something to use as counters nearby to help you work out the answers (Lego, beads, buttons etc. are all good for this).

Level 1

Level 2

Art:

Today I was hoping that you may be able to do some art or craft to represent the life cycle of a frog or a butterfly (your choice!) to show me what you have learnt. You could do this in lots of different ways:

  • maybe use playdough to make each stage of the life cycle
  • find different toys or objects around the house to use
  • paint a picture for each stage
  • have a look at the ideas below for some inspiration!

I hope you all have a lovely day and a brilliant weekend!

Thursday 11th June

Hello everyone,

Today we will be doing Literacy, Maths and Letters and Sounds.

Literacy:

Now that you have learnt about the life cycle of a butterfly, we are going to start learning about the life cycle of a frog. Have a look at the video below, it’s very interesting seeing all the different stages that the tadpoles go through before they become frogs.

There is also a PowerPoint to have a look at if you prefer.

Frog Life Cycle PowerPoint

Can you complete the sheet below and put the stages of a frog’s life cycle in the correct order. Then can you label each picture with the correct terms (frogspawn, tadpole, froglet, frog).

Frog Life Cycle

Maths:

I hope you enjoyed the code-a-pillar app yesterday, I have another app for you to try out today. It is the BeeBot app, which again is free to download. It’s very similar to code-a-pillar, but the instructions that you need to give are a little bit more complex. We have had a go at this one in school, but it was a while ago now!

Letters and Sounds:

Today I would like you to watch another lesson from the Letters and Sounds YouTube channel. Remember to choose from the learning to blend or Reception lessons.

Wednesday 10th June

Hello everyone,

Today we are going to do Maths, Literacy and Forest School.

Maths:

Following on from what we did yesterday, today I would like you to have a go at the Code-a-pillar app from Fisher Price.

This is a free to download app and you will need to give the caterpillar instructions to help it reach a target. It starts off nice and easy and then gets a bit trickier, but give it a go and see how you get on.

Literacy:

Today can you please continue with your writing from yesterday and complete the last two sections of your butterfly life cycle writing. You could watch the video from Monday again if you need to refresh your memory!

Forest School:

Since we’ve been learning about minibeasts, I thought you might like to make a bug hotel in your garden today! There are some great instructions on how to do this on the RSPB website below. The good thing is that you can just use whatever you have available – plant pots, coffee tins, straw, cardboard, sand, toilet roll tubes etc. We are also going to have a go at making one of these in the Gruffalo Wood in school today!

https://www.rspb.org.uk/get-involved/activities/give-nature-a-home-in-your-garden/garden-activities/build-a-bug-hotel/

Have a wonderful day,

Miss Roberts x
