Maths

Today we are going to continue practising adding using the expanded column method except this time we will be adding 3 digit numbers. The process is exactly the same as adding 2 digit numbers but we just have an extra column to add.

I’ve made two PP to explain the process. Please watch them carefully so you can see how to do it. I will be doing a Live at 9am if you want to come to that to listen to me try and explain it.

Heads-up for Science and Live lessons

On Thursday we will be investigating magnetic and non magnetic materials for Science. So if you have a magnet to hand can you get that ready please.

Also Live lessons:

Wed 27th Jan @ 9am – expanded column method for adding 3 digit numbers.

Thursday 28th Jan @ 9am – Continuing on from Wednesday’s lesson. If children feel confident in the method then they don’t need to attend. If you think they want a little reassurance, then come along and they can apply it to a practical context.

Maths Live lesson – Wed 27.1.21

I am offering the chance for a Live maths lesson on Wednesday at 9:05am. It will be similar to what Mrs Hilditch did today but with three digit numbers instead of two. If you want to come along for a bit more practise then please accept the invite in your school email account.

Very simple post today. You are going to be putting into practise what you learnt yesterday with adding using the expanded column method. Below, is an activity sheet whereby you need to add together certain food items. Please use the method from Monday to work out your answers. If you are still unsure then go back to Monday’s post and look at the powerpoints to help you. You will notice that the carrot cake price has been changed to make it more suitable. Good luck!

Monday 25.1.21 Math Home Learning

Good morning, I hope we had a lovely weekend and we are raring to go.

Maths

We are going to be looking at a new method for adding this week which we will be using when we can finally all come back together in school. It it called the expanded column method.

This method is easy enough to understand if you make sure that you set your work out in columns. So, if you have squared paper at home or if you have lined paper, get dividing it up into reasonable sized squares, this will help hugely with grasping this method. However, the sheet you will be trying today has the squares on it to show you how to set it out.

Below is a PP going through a couple of examples. Please watch this through as many times as you need, in order for you to understand it. I’ve had to divide it into two as the file was too big for the website.

Premiership Scores- a quick reminder

Just a very quick reminder to parents. If you child does the Premiership test on a Friday (times tables) could you please email me (Mrs Davies) the scores. That way, I can keep their records up to date and they can then move onto the next times table. When I have checked they have got full marks twice.

Otherwise, when the children can eventually come back to school, they might have to go back to the times table they were on before lockdown.

Thank you and have a lovely weekend!
