We have just had another understandable complaint from a local resident about being regularly blocked in on their driveway by parents dropping off or collecting their children. This is unacceptable – as per section 243 the Highway Code, you must not park:
- Near a school entrance
- Anywhere you would prevent access for emergency services
- At or near a bus or tram stop or taxi rank
- Opposite or within 10 metres (32 feet) of a junction, except in an authorised parking space
- Near the brow or a hill or hump bridge
- Opposite (if this would cause an obstruction) another parked vehicle
- Where the kerb has been lowered to help wheelchair users and powered mobility vehicles
- In front of an entrance to a property
- On a bend
- Where you would obstruct cyclists’ use of cycle facilities except when forced to do so by stationary traffic
So, just another friendly reminder to parents who transport their child/ren to and from school by car to please:
- only park in official parking areas along the roads,
- be considerate to other parked cars (always ensuring you don’t block in anyone else’s parked car); and
- please don’t obstruct access to driveways.
Thank you.
