Home Learning 15.1.21

It’s Friday, which mean one thing. Time to test the old brain cells with our maths skills.

Maths

Time to warm up those brains. Practise your times table by playing Hit the Button. Can the children make sure that if they are on the x3, x4,x8 , x6 or x7 that they also practise the division side too.

Hit the Button

Premiership If you emailed me your child’s score and you either haven’t heard back from me or I didn’t tell you, then are still on the times table you were on from last week. If I have emailed you and told you, then you can move onto the next times table. They are ordered below.

x2              x5            x10            x3              x4          x8            x6         x7

Mental Arithmetic

We always follow Premiership with a mental arithmetic test. Usually, I play them an audio clip of a lady reading out the questions. They are timed so all you need is hit play!

If you can’t get the audio above to play, then I’ll attach the questions and the answers below. With the first 10 questions, the children get 5 seconds to answer after the  question is repeated. On the last five questions, the children get 10. We have tried to encourage the children to listen to the question the first time and jot down anything they think will help and once the question is repeated, then they can answer. If they have jotted notes down to help, then they can always return to the question if they have finished another question quite easily.

Afterwards, we mark it and  go through some of the questions and talk about how we could answer them quickly.

Spelling Test

Spelling test on the children’s spellings from last week. Usually, we would jumble them up, read out the word and then put it into a sentence for the class.

New spellings- Below are a new set of spellings to learn over the next week.

Reading

Usually on a Friday we don’t do a whole Guided Reading session but rather get the children to have 20-30 minutes of quiet, independent reading. It allows the children a little down time and is considered a mindful activity. Perhaps, even play some some calming music in the background to help them relax during this strange time. If you want, send us in a photo of the children reading and we can print it off and stick them to our reading journal wall!

Afternoon lesson RE/Art

Because of the snow last week and the school shutting early, the children in school never got to do their RE lesson from last week.  So if your child hasn’t done that lesson either, then please refer back to last Friday’s post as I would like the learning of the children in school and those out of school to be consistent and at the same point.

If your child has done it then I will add on small recreational art lesson instead. Below are posters of very well known artefacts from the Shang Dynasty. I would like you to have a go and sketch one. Things to think about when sketching:

  • Make sure you think about the size of your sketch, use the space the paper gives you, let’s not make it too small that you miss out on the details.
  • Sketches are not usually achieved in the first go, practise. Focus on particular parts of the artefact and then put it together in a final piece.
  • Think about light strokes when using your pencil, perhaps use the side of your pencil rather than the nib. Use your pencil gently to allow for softness and shading techniques. Remember, it’s easier to cover up mistakes if its done lightly!
  • Have fun, even if you don’t think you are an artist. Have a go and you might just surprise yourself!
