23.6.20 PE activities KS1

For our PE based activities this afternoon, we are going to be looking at two very cool things to do. The first one is the bottle flipping challenge and the second is having a go at making your own stadium!

Bottle Flip Challenge

Have a watch of these talented children, mastering the art of bottle flipping! bottle flip trick shots video

How do you think these children got so good at bottle flipping? Yes, they have practised a LOT! To get good at any sport or game you have to practise!

If you want to have a go at this,  it may be a good idea to practise outside so that you do not get water everywhere or risk breaking any ornaments! Make sure you have lots of space around you and be aware of others around you.

Can you do any of these tricks? For some of them you will need more than one bottle. If you do master any of the tricks, ask an adult or older sibling to take a video and email it to your teacher. I’m sure they’ll be amazed!

Make your own stadium

I’m sure you have enjoyed watching many sporting events on the TV and some of you may have been lucky enough to have actually attended an event and sat in the stadium or arena. If you have done either, then you will know that sporting stadiums are huge and built to accommodate a lot of visitors!

Have a watch of the video and/or the PowerPoint, or do your own research about different stadiums and marvel at how they are designed:

Can you have a go at making your own mini stadium using modelling materials of your choice? What would you need to remember when you’re making your stadium? You will need to remember that sports stadiums need somewhere for the spectators to sit and you will need to mark out an area where the sport is played.

Below is an example of a sports stadium you could make at home. Full instructions can be found here: https://www.activityvillage.co.uk/olympic-stadium-craft

made with cardboard

I had some fun trying to design a stadium using this website: https://toytheater.com/build/ It takes a bit of getting used to, but there are a surprising amount of design choices on this free site. Here’s the start of my design:

By the way, the hammer icon is the delete button for anything you don’t want! The icon with all the little dots acts like a menu and if you click on the first icon (which on my example has a picture of a person) you get a menu of different design features. The circular arrow at the bottom allows you to change the orientation of the item you are adding.

Here are some cool examples of stadiums made by adults. A couple have used some interesting building materials!

Have fun being creative. We look forward to seeing your finished designs! x
