Tuesday 23rd June

Hi everyone. I hope you were able to enjoy a bit of sun yesterday amidst the many downpours! Here are the maths and English activities for today. Our afternoon tasks will be in a separate post.

Maths

Start by watching the video about how to partition numbers: partitioning numbers video

Complete the sheet, thinking carefully about the number of tens and the number of ones in each number. For question 5, you can choose whatever numbers you like as long as they fit the criteria. Tuesday activity

For those of you ready for a greater challenge, have a go at the puzzles below. Start with ‘The Puzzler’:

Year 1 number puzzles

Here is the resource sheet for ‘The Language of Maths’ problem: resource sheet

English

Do you have a favourite sport? How about a game that you really like playing? I would like you to write a set of instructions teaching someone how to play this game. You may have to pretend that they have never played it before and your instructions need to be easy to understand and very clear to follow.

Enjoy watching this short video recapping what a set of instructions look like: BBC Bitesize instructions

Then, have a go at writing a set of instructions for your favourite game or sport, remembering how to lay out your writing correctly. After you have written your instructions, read through them carefully and check your punctuation.

For those of you who like an extra challenge: choose three different colours and highlight all the verbs in one colour and all the adjectives in a different colour. Watching the video again will help you with this. With your third colour, see if you can spot any adverbs in your writing. If you haven’t used any, then maybe you could have a go at adding an adverb to one of your steps. Adverbs are brand new to us so you will find this tricky!
