Catherine’s amazing article!

Yesterday’s English challenge was to write a newspaper article. Catherine has written this fantastic article about Captain Tom’s incredible fundraising and his 100th birthday.

The Somerset Gazette

Terrific Triumph for Captain Tom!

On the 28th April 2020, Captain Tom Moore (aged 99) walked around his garden, using only his walking frame for support. Originally, Tom had set a target of £1000; however, he has raised around £30 million! Captain Tom previously served the army in India. Since completing his challenge, this hero has received many congratulations (and birthday cards) from around the world including his Indian ex-army member friends.

He walked two-and-a-half-metres around his 25m garden. Very Impressive. One of our reporters managed to talk to this great man. He told us that he was tired at the end, but he was happy that he was able to help the NHS during this time of need. Captain Tom has had his 100th birthday on 30 April, which he spent with his family.

Since his sponsored walk, Captain Tom Moore has donated his £30 million to the National Health Service. NHS worker, Jill Johnson, told us, “We are all extremely grateful to the Captain. Thanks to his donation, we are able to employ more workers to do more mask fittings.”

Well Done Captain Tom! His donation has helped make life safer for the vulnerable during this time. All of us in The Somerset Gazette hope that more people follow this great example set by captain tom. Thank you Captain!
