Thursday afternoon 30.4.20

Thursday afternoon is reading skills, science and the daily mile.

1.30 – 1.50pm: Reading skills

We ‘met’ Edward Lear when we looked at ‘An Alphabet’. He wrote a lot of poems called limericks. Have you got any books with limericks in them? Have a read of them. What do you notice about the pattern of these poems? Which ones do you like? Why? Are they funny? Do they make sense? If you are struggling to find any limericks, then have a watch and listen to these! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Js3dgGwpHlo

1.50 – 2.50pm: Science

Watch the time-lapsed video again of the bean growing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w77zPAtVTuI

Pause the video at Day 7 and describe what you see. Then watch Day 8 and Day 9. How does the plant change? Describe at least three changes that have taken place from Day 7 to Day 9. If you have your own plants, go and see them. How are they doing? Are they growing well? Do they need watering? If you are keeping a diary or a record, you could measure how tall they are now.

Have a look at the PowerPoint to learn more about how different habitats suit certain plants. t-sc-443-ks1-all-about-plant-habitats-powerpoint_ver_1

Then read the descriptions of each plant and match it to the habitat that you think it would do best in. t-sc-435c-ks1-all-about-plant-habitats-differentiated-activity-sheets-lower-ability_ver_1

Have a look around your garden. Do you have plants that prefer shady spots to sunny ones? Do you have a pond or know of someone who does? Are there any plants growing in the pond? If you are going for a walk today, see if you can spot plants growing in these different conditions. Remember that you must be with an adult if you are going near a pond or water.

2.50 onward: Daily mile/outdoor activities

Go for a walk or play in your garden. Did anyone make their own hopscotch grid? Maybe you could go on a hunt around your garden, or when you are walking, to see if you can find these things:

something red

a feather

something that is shiny

three different types of birds

something that wriggles

a picture of a rainbow

a plant with a lovely smell

a herb growing

the sound of water

three different types of leaves

a pebble with a pattern on it

a teddy in a window

Have a super afternoon. x
