Finding Good Books!

It was really lovely to hear from so many parents that their children have been enjoying reading over the last term.  We have been working hard as a school to encourage reading for pleasure, both in our classrooms and in our new school library and it’s great to hear that this is continuing at home.  I thought I’d just share a few websites that may be helpful to continue to encourage your children to read at home.

The Book Trust has a wonderful website that can give great recommendations for a huge range of books.  The Bookfinder allows you to choose an age range and genre, then it gives a range of recommended books.  You can also search for ‘What to read after…?’ Then enter a either a series of books eg ‘Horrid Henry’  or a particular book you enjoyed then it will suggest other books for you.

The World Book Day website has some wonderful resources including some free audio books! These are for all ages but include ‘Cookie and the most annoying boy in the world’ by Konnie Huq and ‘Claude in the city’ by Alex T Smith. Just scroll down, select the book and push play!

I’d also like to recommend the beautiful Button and Bear Children’s Bookshop in Shrewsbury.  They sell a wide range of books for all ages.  Louise, the owner, is extremely knowledgable and helpful and has given our school great advice and recommendations for our class and school libraries.

Hope this helps you and your children to discover some wonderful new books.  Happy reading!
