World Book Day is so much more than dressing up or decorating a potato.
It is a day of celebrating books and stories and the love of reading. (As well as a time the publishers give children throughout the country a £1 discount off any book of their choice – don’t forget to use those vouchers!)
For us at Pontesbury CE Primary School every day is a book day, we love reading. The escapism, the joy and sometimes sadness – I for one have cried over a fair few books.
Reading a book and using your imagination to see the characters and the stories or adventures they tell is all part of the fun but so too is sharing a book. There is nothing better (in my view) than reading a great book and then gifting it or recommending it to someone else to enjoy. Likewise sharing a book with another person or group of people is pretty special too, reading to younger children who are starting out on their reading journey or having a story read to you – whatever your age can be magical.
Today our Year 5 children have joined with our Year 1 class to do just that, reading to or with each other.
