NurseryPontesbury Pre-school (now called Nursery) has been at its present site since 1997. Until April 1st 2015 we were a voluntary committee run pre-school, but we have recently amalgamated with Pontesbury Primary school (April 2015).  We now provide a Nursery setting for ‘rising three’ children as part of Pontesbury CE Primary School. (Rising three’s are children who are registered pupils at the school, who have not reached the age of three, but will do so before the end of their first term at school.) We feel this amalgamation is an exciting prospect which will benefit the children.  Ofsted were fully informed of this process along the way.

Pontesbury Nursery is situated in a residential area of a large rural village, within the Primary school grounds. It is a single purpose built porta-building, with our own enclosed outdoor area, which children can access freely on a daily basis. The building consists of one large playroom, a small office, small kitchen, toilet area and staff/disabled toilet and store room, all of which are on one level. Access to the building is via three steps, or a ramp is available at the front of the building for anyone with additional needs. Additional outdoor space is available on a daily basis where we can access the various Primary school playgrounds/fields.

Current opening hours are 8.55a.m – 3.15pm on a Monday, Wednesday and Thursday during term time. The maximum places available on any one day is 22, aged between ‘rising three’ and school age. Sessions are flexible to meet the needs of families living in the village or surrounding rural areas.

Since the amalgamation of the Nursery with the Primary school we now join the school pupils for lunch in the main hall.  We hope in September 2015 to be able to offer Nursery children a school lunch, or they can bring in a packed lunch.

The Nursery is able to support children with special educational needs and/or disabilities and those children who speak English as an additional language.

Four staff are employed at the Nursery:-
Supervisor – Sue Griffiths: NNEB, HLTA, Paediatric First Aid, Food Hygiene

Deputy/ SENCo – Katie Andrews: PGCE, Paediatric First Aid

Play Leader – Angela Evans:  Children’s and Young People’s Workforce Level 2 Certificate, and currently undertaking Level 3 Diploma in children’s and Young People ‘s Workforce, Paediatric First Aid

Play Assistant – Leah Gwilliam: Cache level 3 Diploma in Childcare and Education, Paediatric First Aid

Staff duties are organised on a rota basis covering door duty, snack and lunch preparation, and circle duty. When all staff are in, one member of staff ‘floats’ to help where/when it is required. This ensures that all staff take some responsibility for the different areas of the setting on a regular basis and also get to speak to parents regularly at the start and end of the day.
